Il suo nome probabilmente deriva dalla famiglia romana Scaptia. L&#8217;antico borgo si mostra tutto arroccato sopra il monte Peschiero. Il castello, probabilmente fu costruito nell&#8217;XI secolo. Il centro fortificato fu ceduto nel XIII secolo da Matteo al cardinale Napoleone Orsini. Nel 1611 gli Orsini vendettero il feudo ai Borghese, che lo tennero fino al 1816. Da visitare il famoso Pozzo delle Morge, che presenta un diametro di 3 metri ed una profondit\u00e0 di circa 500 metri. Prosegue, poi, per altri 2 Km perpendicolarmente nelle viscere della montagna calcarea. Gli studiosi sono divisi nel ritenerlo &#8220;artificiale&#8221; o &#8220;naturale&#8221;. (ar.
