Nel 1440 divenne propriet\u00e0 degli Orsini i quali costruirono un nuovo e pi\u00f9 solido castello che per cinquecento anni sfid\u00f2 gli assalti degli eserciti. Dopo gli Orsini l&#8217;ebbero i Brancaleone, i Vitelli, i Ceuli finch\u00e9, nel 1609, il papa Paolo V Borghese l&#8217;acquist\u00f2 per il nipote Marco Antonio. Da questo punto in poi la roccaforte fu destinata soltanto a luogo di occasionale delizia di vari signori. Nel 1902, il cardinale Angelo Di Pietro, riscattando tutti i possedimenti sui quali gravava un oneroso canone in favore del principe Borghese, liber\u00f2 dal secolare servaggio il paese nat\u00eco.
